Mayor Jim Watson and students at Featherston Drive Public School launched a city-wide competition to create the official postcards for the Ottawa 2017 celebrations on Friday.
The competition is open to students in Grades 1 to 12, and those in Ms. Davies’ Grade 4 class got a head start with their pencils and paper, ahead of the May 21 deadline.
One lucky birthday girl was even named Mayor-for-an-hour, and was allowed to wear Watson’s chain of office as she created her card.
The winning designs will be mailed and emailed across the country to invite all to come to Ottawa to celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday.
Entries will be judged by a local panel of artists, who will select one winner from each grade. Winning students and their classmates will be invited to a pizza party at City Hall, with the winning designers receiving a framed commemorative copy of their postcard.
