Michelle Legault
My neighbour, Tysen Lefebvre, is a 14-year-old boy who has dealt with more in his young life than most of us would in a lifetime.
Diagnosed with Pfeiffer Syndrome Type 2, a rare genetic disorder that affects bone growth in the face, hands and feet, he had his first surgery at nine days old.
Fourteen years later, he has endured more than 20 operations, but continues to work tirelessly to help others.
Tysen was granted a wish from Make a Wish to meet Adam Sandler. This proved to be a huge influence on Tysen. After his wish, he decided to raise $1 million for Make a Wish Eastern Ontario, which meant 100 children would receive a wish.
He wanted other children to feel the joy he did and help them forget whatever illness they were dealing with. Now, more than a year later, Tysen has raised over $200,000 for Make A Wish and has granted 22 wishes.
We now can help Tysen get recognized for his hard work. He was nominated and was then chosen as a finalist in the “In the Community” category for the Me to We Awards in connection with Canadian Living magazine. Me to We is an organization that encourages youth to think more about what they can do for their community or the world instead of just themselves.
We are asking Ottawa and surrounding areas, their families and friends, to spread the word and please vote for Tysen. If he wins this award, he would get a page in Canadian Living magazine, $1,000 for his charity and a feature on the Me to We website. Here is our chance to say, “Thank you, Tysen!”
To vote, go to www.metowe.com/awards and vote for Tysen Lefebvre in the In the Community category. Voting began April 17 and continues until May 8. To learn more about his mission and donate, go to www.missiontoamillion.ca
