A white, Ford Escape slammed into a home on Ancaster Avenue on Friday, trapping two people inside the SUV after one of the walls of the garage collapsed.
Ottawa Fire said they received a call about the incident just after 4:30 p.m. They said the vehicle was hanging over the stairs going to the basement. Soon after they arrived, chains and a winch were hooked on the front and the back of the vehicle to stabilize it.
Around 6 p.m., tow trucks prepared to pull the vehicle out of the hole in the garage. Firefighters were also on scene picking up crumpled pieces of the garage door that were scattered on the lawn.
Two people were assessed by paramedics, but no injuries were reported.
A woman who lives across the street from the family said she saw the garage door ripped to pieces and when she looked inside she saw the owner of the home trapped inside the vehicle and she immediately called police.
She said she was surprised that the two people involved in the incident were not injured after seeing that the airbag had deployed. Several people who live in the quiet neighbourhood wandered past the home to find out what was going on after they spotted two police cars, two tow trucks and a fire truck camped outside.
