It’s looking like full-on summery weather in Ottawa over the next few days, peaking Saturday, with a high of 29 C in the forecast.

For many, that means it’s time to hit the city’s beaches and public pools.

But for the third day in a row, Ottawa Public Health is advising swimmers to steer clear of the beaches at Westboro and Petrie River.

For the second time in less than a week, E. coli levels at Westboro Beach were reported at 1,000 units per 100 ml Thursday, a higher-than-average reading.

Significant rainfall on Tuesday was likely a factor.

The rainfall was also behind the red flag at Petrie River.

The rain forced a no-swim advisory at Petrie Island and Mooney’s Bay beaches Wednesday, but they were deemed safe for swimming by Thursday.

Britannia Beach continues to be the safest bet for swimmers.

The west end beach has been in the clear since the city began recording water quality results June 21, apart from two days in late June when all Ottawa beaches were under the same no-swim advisory due to heavy rainfall.
