Via Rail passengers on their way to Ottawa were delayed more than four hours after their train struck and killed a pedestrian near Kingston on Sunday afternoon.
The 189 travellers headed for the capital had been scheduled to arrive at 2 p.m.
“We are very sorry for the inconvenience the situation has caused for our passengers,” said Via Rail spokeswoman Mylène Bélanger. “Today’s incident is a tragedy and our thoughts go to the family.”
The train hit the pedestrian 20 minutes outside of Kingston just after noon. It was cleared to move at 4:30 p.m. after a coroner had visited the scene.
Bélanger said Via Rail is co-operating with Kingston police, who are investigating.
