Ottawa’s community and protectives services committee has endorsed the fire department’s plan to build new stations in Kanata and Orléans.
The committee also approved a recommendation to consolidate Station 36 (900 Industrial Ave.) and Station 55 (1700 Blair Rd.) into one new station to be built in the Cyrville corridor.
The fire department needs a new station to serve Orléans south and will move a station on Riddell Drive in Kanata a bit south to better serve new and developing communities in the South March area.
The proposed changes are in line with updated fire-response time measurements and will not adversely affect public safety, Ottawa Fire Chief Gerry Pingitore told the committee.
Council will vote on the plan next week.
