A funeral was to be held Thursday at the Beechwood National Memorial Centre for Staff Sgt. Kal Ghadban, the 22-year Ottawa Police Service veteran who took his own life on Sunday.
Ghadban, 43, was found dead in his office at Ottawa police headquarters on Elgin Street shortly after 1 p.m. on Sunday, the same day as the Canadian Police and Peace Officers Memorial ceremony on Parliament Hill to honour officers killed in the line of duty.
A visitation was to be held at the Beachwood National Memorial Centre on Wednesday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m.
On Thursday, a prayer service was scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Ottawa Mosque on Northwestern Avenue, followed by the funeral at Beechwood National Memorial Centre at 2:30 p.m.
Ghadban’s family has asked that the burial at the Ottawa Police Memorial Cemetery remain closed to the public.
Ottawa police have set up a remembrance site for the public to offer condolences. Messages can be sent to HonouringKal@ottawapolice.ca.
Ghadban was the officer in charge of the street crime, break-and-enter and human trafficking units.
