More than 200 people strapped on their favourite walking shoes Saturday to trek 28 kilometres in fine late-summery weather to raise $330,000 in the second annual Epic Walk for local cancer care.
The walk, sponsored by Subway and three local charities, was led by co-chairs Vernon White and Susan Jones, and travelled from the Accora Village near Bayshore in the west end to Richard and Annette Bloch Cancer Survivors Park on Alta Vista.
Combined with last year’s total, the Epic Walk has raised $550,000 for cancer care in the area. This year’s proceeds will benefit the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation, the Queensway Carleton Hospital Foundation and Bruyère Foundation.
“The funds we raise are invested in this community to strengthen the resources available to those who are fighting cancer. It is an incredibly powerful event that is changing lives,” said co-chair Susan Jones.
