A man faces multiple charges after an altercation near Rideau Street led to the discovery of a loaded hand gun in his possession early Saturday morning.
Ottawa Police Services were called to a disturbance near Dalhousie and Rideau streets at about 1 a.m. involving several men. One of the men was wanted on a warrant for violating parole. When he was placed under arrest, it was discovered he was carrying a loaded 9 mm handgun.
Ismail Ismail, 27, has been charged with:
- Using, handling and storing store firearms carelessly
- Possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace
- Carrying a concealed weapon
- Possession of a prohibited firearm without holding a licence and registration certificate
- Possession of a prohibited firearm knowingly not holding a licence
- Occupying a motor vehicle with firearm
- Possession of a loaded regulated firearm
- Possession of a firearm obtained by crime
- Possession of a firearm while prohibited (2 counts)
- Causing a disturbance by fighting/shouting/swearing
- Obstructing/Resisting a Peace Officer
He is expected to appear in court Saturday morning.
