Robin Williams, a standup comic who shot to stardom in the 1970s when he appeared in the Mork & Mindy television series, has died at the age of 63.
Williams was pronounced dead on Monday at his home in Tiburon, Calif., the Marin County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. The cause of death was listed as as asphyxia. Williams had been battling severe depression, according to a statement from his publicist.
Williams, who, after Mork & Mindy, went on to enjoy successful career in movies, won an Academy Award for his supporting role in the 1997 feature film Good Will Hunting.
