Ottawa paramedics tweet Gaga: flip your mask

Paramedics are a helping profession, so when the people at the Professional Paramedics Association of Ottawa saw Lady Gaga’s recent online complaint that she’d suffered altitude sickness-type symptoms at a Colorado show, they were quick with professional tips.

“O2 (oxygen) mask is upside down,” they tweeted and Facebooked helpfully, with the hashtag and message “#publichealthcare is better.”

Indeed, the extreme close-up of Gaga’s unmistakable poker face shows the oxygen tube exiting the mask in an upward direction, rather than down.

“Like many things you put on your body, it’s just a lot more comfortable when you put it on properly,” laughed Darryl Wilton, president of the PPAO.

“It wouldn’t have affected the operation. It just looked pretty silly.”

Wilton said the good-natured posts on Twitter and Facebook were in keeping with the association’s philosophy of trying be something for almost everyone.

“Too many organizations forget that social media is meant to be social. You send out informative stuff and you send out some lighthearted stuff, get people involved. You don’t catch all fish with the same kind of hook.”

Seems to be working. The tweet on @Ottawa_9_1_1 and the post on their Facebook page are both being passed along, although there’s no word whether Gaga’s people have been alerted.
