Soccer coach charged with sexually assaulting young girl

A 24-year-old man who coached soccer on Ottawa’s east side has been charged with sexually assaulting a girl twice last month.

Ottawa police said Tuesday that its sexual assault and child abuse section started an investigation after it was contacted last month.

A man was arrested after the investigation revealed that a girl had been sexually assaulted on two occasions.

Police have not disclosed where the alleged sexual assaults occurred.

Matthew Braithwaite, 24, of Bourget was charged with two counts of sexual assault and two counts of sexual interference of a person under the age of 16.

Police describe Braithwaite as a physically fit, clean shaven white man with blond hair.

Braithwaite is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.
