A 31-year-old man was sent to the hospital with bumps and bruises after his electric wheelchair collided with an OC Transpo bus Thursday afternoon.
Ottawa Fire Services responded to the accident at Bank and Cooper streets shortly after 1 p.m.
“The side of the wheelchair was kind of jammed up against the bus. The two were kind of wedged in together,” said spokesman Marc Messier, adding it wasn’t clear how the collision took place. “We managed to dislodge the chair from bus.”
“He was shaken up,” said Messier, adding the man had very serious disabilities.
“The chair was damaged to point where it wasn’t working anymore.
Ottawa paramedics said the man had minor injuries, and was taken to hospital for an assessment at his request.
Bank Street was closed briefly between Somerset and Cooper streets, but it is now open.
