Thanks to the Ottawa Sports and Entertainment Group for bringing the Canadian Football League back to Ottawa. I’ve been a big supporter of the new Lansdowne Park.
Over the years I’ve had several spirited arguments with some of those “Enemies of Lansdowne” people. I can even live with the new condos going up along Bank Street.
But why, oh why, did OSEG let TD install a huge, ugly, lit logo sign (TD Place) on the back of the beautiful screen surrounding the south side stands? I don’t recall seeing that on the plans for the new Lansdowne.
As I drove down Colonel By Drive the other night on the way home from a Chamberfest concert, I was startled by the pure ugliness of this sign.
The screen was supposed to hide the less-than-beautiful stadium features from the outside
world and the Rideau Canal (our UNESCO World Heritage Site). Perhaps it could have been remounted on the inside of the screen since it should definitely be included in the list of “less than beautiful stadium features.”
