Vimy Bridge not the right choice
Re: Call new Strandherd-Armstrong span ‘Vimy Bridge’, veterans say, July 21.
I would encourage the veterans to withdraw their support in naming this insignificant bridge after Vimy Ridge. We’re all anticipating a newbridge connecting Ottawa and Gatineau — that is the jewel they should be holding out for.
The Strandherd-Armstrong bridge is of great local significance, but it carries no national significance at all. You can only name one Ottawa bridge after Vimy, so this choice should be very carefully considered.

A wonderful tribute to veterans
What a fantastic idea and real tribute to the many brave Canadians who fought — many paying the ultimate price at Vimy Ridge during the First World War — to name the newly completed Armstrong-Strandherd bridge Vimy Bridge, as suggested by military veterans.
We simply do not do enough to celebrate our war veterans, who have helped greatly to make Canada the successful country with the freedoms we enjoy. Vimy was one of the greatest victories by the Canadian military; our brave soldiers fought well beyond their weight. Naming this structure in their memory would be wonderful.
Larry Comeau, Ottawa
