An Ottawa man was arrested and charged with impaired driving and possession of a firearm, among other offences, early Sunday morning.
At about 3 a.m., police stopped a vehicle in the area of Bathgate Drive and Golf Place, in the east end of Ottawa. Bens Therassan, 27, was charged with impaired driving as well as being unlawfully in possession of a loaded semi automatic handgun.
Therassan faces numerous firearm and driving offences, which include:
* storing a firearm carelessly
* possessing firearms dangerous to public peace
* possessing firearm without holding a licence
* possessing firearm knowing not holding a licence
* possessing a loaded firearm
* possessing a firearm obtained by crime
* impaired driving
The Ottawa police guns and gangs unit is investigating.
