Emergency responders reporting to the scene of a fire at 1931 Peter Robinson Rd. in Carp at about 8:45 a.m. were met by significant flames and smoke billowing from the basement.
Firefighters were able to control the blaze quickly and confirmed they contained the blaze to the home’s basement.
Fire services spokesperson Danielle Cardinal noted the home had working smoke alarms throughout the home that “alerted the occupants and they were able to evacuate safely. ”
“A neighbour also responded quickly to assist and used fire extinguishers to try to slow the progression of the fire,” Cardinal said in a release.
The neighbour was taken to hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation.
There were no other injuries reported as a result of the blaze but the family of five living in the home has been displaced for the time being.
A cause for the fire and damage estimates are not yet available.
An investigation continues.
