Ottawa police were called to an address on Simcoe Street after a triple domestic stabbing on Thursday afternoon.
Two people were taken to hospital with serious injuries, while one person suffered minor injuries.
An elderly woman was slashed in the throat and is in critical condition. An elderly man was slashed across the hands and head and is in stable condition. A younger man suffered a self-inflicted stab wound and is in critical condition.
Police believe the incident began with a mental health issue.
Police briefly closed streets around the address, including Springhurst Avenue, Simcoe Street and Evelyn Avenue, but the roads are now reopened.
The area is near where the Queensway crosses Main Street.
