The Ottawa police closed a stretch of Elgin Street around noon Wednesday as Ministry of Transportation engineers investigated the possibility of a segment of the concrete wall shifting on the Highway 417 overpass.
“We shut down Elgin Street in both directions between Catherine Street and Isabella (street),” said Const. Chuck Benoit. “MTO are checking up on an issue with the overpass … so we are shutting it down for public safety (reasons). Pedestrians, vehicles and cyclists cannot go underneath.”
Police said the length of the closure is undetermined at this time.
