Ottawa veterans the Flaps are taking to the stage for one more show, and it’ll be Saturday, June 28 at the Glue Pot Pub (340 Queen St.)
The “Last Flap” comes after 12 years of instrumental mayhem from the band. “It’s a bit of a shame, but it’s the right thing to do,” says Pat Lawlor, founder of the band.”We’ve been doing it for over 10 years now, and to be honest, I never would have expected it to last as long as it has.”
Band member John Higney adds, “We had a blast making music that we like without much concern for trends or what others think is cool, but we’ve been at this now for 12 years and it feels like its run its course. Not much more than that really.”
And is the “hiatus” permanent? “Hard to say,” Higney says. “Forever is a long time — for The Who it started in 1982. Whatever unfolds, we’re all cool about winding things up.”
All the Flappers — the others are Jamie Gullikson and Martin Newman — have other musical projects in the city. At the final show they’ll be joined by guests Risshi Von Rex and DJ Wig. Doors 9 p.m., $10.
