Warmer weather has prompted the National Capital Commission to temporarily close the Rideau Canal Skateway until the ice surface improves.
The NCC says its crew “will continue necessary operations” to reopen the canal as quickly as weather permits. It urged the public not to venture onto the canal surface because freezing rain or water may hide serious deterioration of the ice thickness.
For this reason it asked the public to respect the barricades and the signs installed at access points.
