Police have reopened a number of downtown streets in the Queen Street and Lyon Street area after determining that a “suspicious package” found in the area was not dangerous.
A passerby spotted the package, which was reported as possibly being some sort of cylinder, shortly after 11:30 a.m. Thursday.
Emergency crews were dispatched to the location. Ottawa police’s chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosive (CBRNE) unit was also dispatched as part of the response.
As a result of the police operation, Queen Street was closed between Kent Street and Bay Street.
Lyon Street was closed between Sparks and Albert streets.
Police began reopening the streets around 1:30 p.m. when the package was deemed to be safe.
