67’s 6, Spirit 4
Sophomore forward Travis Barron’s first Ontario Hockey League hat trick on Sunday afternoon capped a highly successful stretch of road games for the Ottawa 67’s.
Ottawa scored three straight, including two from Barron, in the last half of the third period to drop host Saginaw 6-4, giving the 6-4 67’s four wins in their past five Ontario Hockey League games away from home.
The run of road games began with a 4-0 win at Barrie on Oct. 10 and that was followed by a 7-5 victory in Owen Sound the next day. After three days off, the 67’s were in Windsor, where they secured a 4-3 win. They came up short on Friday at Flint, falling behind 5-1 in the first en route to a 7-4 loss.
On Sunday in front of 2,206 at the Dow Event Center, the Spirit jumped in front 2-0 only four minutes in on goals from Dylan Sadowy. The 67’s responded with three straight before the intermission, as Barron connected at 14:37, Nathan Todd got one at 15:09 and Dante Salituro found the net at 18:35 on the power play.
Saginaw evened it at 3-3 in the second on a goal by Tye Felhaber and Sadowy completed his hat trick to make it 4-3 Spirit at 2:35 of the third.
Ottawa tied the score again on Barron’s second of the game at 14:44 of the third, Stepan Falkovsky got the game-winner at 16:52 and Barron finished the scoring with an empty-net goal at 19:57.
Travis Konecny had four assists, Drake Rymsha had three and Leo Lazarev earned the win in goal, facing 25 shots. Brendan Bonello was tested 32 times at the other end of the ice.
The 67’s now get three straight at home, beginning with a 7 p.m. matchup against Mississauga on Wednesday at TD Place. Oshawa will be in Ottawa on Friday (7 p.m.) and it will be Peterborough on Sunday (3 p.m.).
