100 Women Who Care Ottawa meets Monday, Sept. 14 at the Heart & Crown, 353 Preston St., with a social hour beginning at 5 p.m. and the meeting running from 6 p.m. to 7. The group is always looking for new members and has compiled a Top-5 list of reasons to join.

Learn: You learn about three amazing Ottawa charities and the work they do. At each meeting, three charities, drawn at random from nomination ballots submitted by members at the previous meeting, present. Often they’re charities you’ve never heard of.

Give: You get to give to your favourite presenting charity. Once you hear about their work through their five-minute presentations, you write a $100 cheque (or you can divide $100 between the three) to the one you liked best. Presenting charities at the Sept. 14 meeting include: L’Arche Ottawa, Ten Oaks Project and Great Canadian Theatre Company.

Share: Once you’ve written your cheque, you also have the right to nominate your favourite local charity for the next meeting. Three will be drawn at the end of the evening.

Network: You get to spend an evening with 100 or more other caring women. Bring a friend and make a night of it, or come and meet lots of like-minded new friends.

Effect change: You’re part of a group that raises at least $40,000 a year for your city of Ottawa. Need we say more? Visit www.100WomenWhoCareOttawa.ca for more information or to sign up.

Not a woman? That’s OK. 100 Men Who Care Ottawa is looking for members, too. The men meet Tuesday, Sept. 22 at the same address, social hour at 6 p.m., meeting from 7 to 8. Presenting charities include Rural Ottawa Support Services, the Children’s Aid Foundation of Ottawa and Citizen Advocacy. See 100MenWhoCareOttawa.com for more information or email menwhocareott@hotmail.com to sign up.
