As reported earlier, someone stole a 1957 Les Paul guitar that belongs to Ottawa musician Kathleen Edwards.

Singer song writer Kathleen Edwards performs at the Live at Squamish music festival Sunday, August 26, 2012.

Now, a fan of Edwards has launched a crowdfunding campaign to help replace the valuable instrument. (It’s the guitar Edwards is seen playing in the photo above.)

“Stealing someone’s cherished guitar is just about as low as you can go,” writes fan Tim McGurrin on the Indiegogo page. “Kathleen has used this guitar both locally and internationally to bring joy to so many fans. Her music has touched me deeply, and helped me through some tough times. . .  I don’t know Kathleen personally and have never met her, but have enjoyed many of her unforgettable live shows.”

McGurrin appeals to the music community and reasons that “if just a small percentage of her fans give $10, we’ll have more than enough to get her a replacement guitar,” which he values at approximately $5,000 US.  He adds that if Edwards’ stolen guitar is returned to her, “all funds raised up to that point will be donated instead to the Ottawa Music Foundation.
