Re: Urinating, fornicating on monuments are acts too stupid to properly avenge, Aug. 4; and, Toronto man charged with war memorial ‘fornicating’ mischief, Aug. 4.

I had the great fortune of acting as the manager for the Rugby Ontario U15 boys’ team this past week. We trained at RMC in Kingston Wednesday and Thursday before coming to Ottawa with the U16 Girls’ and U17 Boys’ squads, to host the B.C. Rugby squads on Friday and Sunday.

On Saturday, we had free time to go downtown and visit the city. This was the first opportunity for many of the players. One of the sites that all players wanted to visit was the Cenotaph, our National War Memorial. This photo above shows our players proudly having their picture taken in front of the monument.

I am very proud of these young ladies and men. We should not spend too much energy on the very few young people who show disrespect. Let us instead focus our praise on our outstanding young Canadians who do act in a respectful manner.

Bob Shaw, Orléans
