Shrine Circus will be in Ottawa this weekend, performing Friday, Saturday and Sunday in the parking lot of the RA Centre on Riverside Drive.
But in addition to the crowds, the circus will also be visited by the Ottawa Animal Defense League, a group of activists from Ottawa, Kingston and surrounding areas.
They planned to protest “extreme techniques” they say are used on performing animals, including tight collars, shocks, bullhooks and whips.

Circus protesters lined Magedoma Boulevard in Brockville on Wednesday prior to the start of the afternoon show for the Shrine Circus in that city.
The circus has seven performances planned, with two shows planned on Friday and Sunday and three on Saturday.
Protesters will be on scene between 30 and 90 minutes before the set start time of each show. For a full list of show times, visit http://www.shrine-circus.com.
