The City of Ottawa has just the thing for people looking to commemorate special events or memories.
For a mere $10 you can be the proud owner of a decommissioned street sign to, say, get Christmas-sy (De la Noel Street), or remember a special moment (Apenglow Private) or just one of the classics like Heron Road or Rideau River Drive.
Shoppers can select their favourite pieces from a list of street signs and reserve them by emailing StreetNameSigns@ottawa.ca. Signs can be picked up in the Little Italy area at 175 Loretta Ave. N. from Monday to Friday 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. Cash or cheque payments will both be accepted.
The reason behind the decommissioning, according to the city, is that many street names from former municipalities have been removed from service to avoid duplication and many more signs have been replaced due to maintenance.
The selection list will change as old signs continue to be replaced, so keep checking back!
