I would like to thank Phil Jenkins for his lovely recent column. He captured the atmosphere and vividly described the beautiful corners as well as the unfortunate recent eyesores.
The only major point I would add is the sad absence of Paul’s Boat Lines this summer. I feel sure that many other people who spend time along the Rideau Canal are missing those charming boats full of visitors who always looked delighted to be there and were so quick to wave at those of us stuck onshore. Leaving the canal without boat trips this summer is a real shame, and forcing that company out in favour of some possible future arrangement with a company able to put on totally unnecessary and inappropriate high-tech shows along the route is a travesty.
The experience of being on the canal is attraction enough and needs no embellishment.
