Paramedics revived a 22-year-old cyclist after he suffered a “medical event” at the intersection of Charlemagne Boulevard and Tenth Line Road in Orléans on Sunday around 6:51 p.m.

According to bystanders, the young man collapsed suddenly and was found without vital signs. Paramedics used a defibrillator on him at the scene and, after successfully reviving him, transported him to hospital where he was in critical but stable condition Sunday evening.

It was initially thought that there had been an accident, but Jean-Phillippe Senecal from the Ottawa Paramedic Service said it was not an accident but rather a “medical incident”, however he could not clarify exactly what had happened. Senecal said a bystander confirmed it was not an accident, and that paramedics stayed on scene to gather more information.

“We don’t know exactly what happened to him, all we know is that it wasn’t an accident. The person just probably collapsed,” Senecal said Sunday evening.
