Electricity was restored to most neighbourhoods by 9 p.m. after hundreds of homes were left without power in the Ottawa, Gloucester and Nepean areas on Tuesday.

Power lines were downed by a tree, cutting out power to more than 2,500 people throughout the service territory, most notably in in the Alta Vista, Cyrville and Somerset areas, Hydro Ottawa said.

Ottawa Fire Services also attributed the outages to high winds, saying they had responded to more than 20 calls between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m., although the issues weren’t critical.

Traffic lights were also out, causing flashing red lights during Ottawa’s rush hour.

Power was restored to about 1,100 people in the Albion, Russell and Bantree areas by 6 p.m., while light and forestry crews continued to work late into the night in the Walkley area.

According to Hydro Ottawa’s Outage Map, all services were restored by 9:05 p.m. on Tuesday.
