A 55-year-old man was rushed to hospital with “multi-system trauma” Tuesday morning after being thrown from his motorcycle when he slammed into a guardrail in the city’s east end, according to Ottawa Paramedic Service.

Paramedics said the incident happened on Highway 174, near Blair Road, around 6:30 a.m.

The man is believed to have been going roughly 50 km/h when he lost control of his bike. The trauma involved his chest, abdomen, back and extremities. No other vehicles were involved in the collision.

Paramedics said he was conscious and in stable condition when he arrived in hospital.

It was the second serious east-end motorcycle crash in just a few hours. On Monday night, an 23-year-old man was taken to hospital with head injuries and severely fractured legs after he hit a construction barrier on the Aviation Parkway.

At the time of the incident, the man was in critical condition. Construction workers who were in the area called 911 at around 10 p.m.

The teen was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. The westbound ramp from Highway 417 to the Parkway was closed due to the collision, it was re-opened Tuesday morning.
