Ottawa police laid 59 criminal charges and issued 338 offence notices in a weeklong sweep of downtown streets.
Officers conducted a “zero-tolerance initiative” from 11 a.m. to 2:30 a.m., June 1 to 7, on Rideau and George streets between Sussex Drive and Nicholas Street and later expanded it to the area around the Beer Store at Rideau Street and the Waller Mall.
Of the criminal charges laid, 20 were drug-related. Several bylaw offences were also issued, in addition to provincial offences under the Liquor License Act, Trespass to Property Act, the Safe Streets Act and the Highway Traffic Act.
Eight people wanted on warrants were arrested, and a missing ward of the Children’s Aid Society was apprehended.
