The Ontario Provincial Police has charged a driver with street racing after he was caught travelling in excess of 150 kilometres per hour on Highway 417 westbound near Boundary Road Tuesday.
An officer spotted a car Tuesday at about 1 a.m. traveling well above the 100-kilometre-per-hour limit and stopped the vehicle a short while later.
The vehicle, owned by a 20-year-old Brampton man has been seized for seven days. The driver’s licence was also suspended for seven days.
Police did not release the man’s identity.
He faces a charge of racing a motor vehicle, and possible fine between $2,000 and $10,000, six demerit points, up to six months in jail and licence suspension of up to two years.
On a second conviction, the licence could be suspended for 10 years
