Kanata South: A model home with lots of eye candy

A lavish laundry room has the star power to inject a big pleasure factor into weekly wash duties.

Traditionally, laundry rooms are utilitarian affairs tucked in a mudroom, jammed next to the door leading to the garage, jimmied into an oversized closet on the second floor or worst of all, set in a dark corner of the basement. Not very sexy.

The design folks at Glenview Homes have taken a radically different approach with their newest model home, the Woodland, in the Kanata South community of Monahan Landing. The lime green and white laundry room has a premium second-floor location, featuring angled ceiling lines and a large curved palladian window looking over the street in the booming community off Hope Side Road.

Lots of counter space, a sink and cabinets could easily expand this sunny laundry room into a workshop for crafty folks.

The Woodland is Glenview’s newest and largest model home at 2,880 square feet and it comes packed with sophisticated eye candy to appeal to second- or third-time buyers with a growing family.

The treats start with buffed black-and-white tiles in the sunken foyer and lead to a creamy white kitchen that shares the back of the house with a breakfast area and ultra comfy family room.

Glenview teamed up with the award-winning group at Deslaurier Custom Cabinets, giving them the green light to show off smart storage in a slim kitchen pantry, a white farmer’s sink and one of the newest design trends, champagne coloured pulls and knobs on the cabinets.

White marble counters work well with white tiled walls, an ample kitchen island and more than enough room for a breakfast table for morning meals and casual Friday pizzas.

“Deslaurier is a leader and we wanted to give them room to show their talents,” says Jake Shabinsky, managing director at Glenview Homes.

“This is our first, true four-bedroom home,” he adds. And what fine bedrooms, from a young daughter’s ultra-bright, pink-and-orange bedroom decorated with my little pony wall decals to two saucy rooms for boys, to a quiet retreat for the parents, including a huge soaking tub and oversized, walk-in shower.

Norma King Design from Toronto is the talent behind the two-storey, which sits on a slim 36-foot-wide lot yet features a two-car garage and a basement designed to appeal to the sports fiend who likes to party. There is a small wet bar beside the stairs, a foosball table, and chairs tucked up to a skinny high table with a clear view of the big screen television.

More than 100 visited the Woodland when it opened March 28 in the community of 1,000 lots shared equally by Glenview and Mattamy Homes.

“The spring market is healthy,” says Shabinsky.

Glenview has sold 205 homes at Monahan Landing, one-quarter of them townhomes. There are plans for a new release of back-to-back towns this fall and a new community in Kemptville.

There are seven model homes by Glenview in Monahan Landing, with the overwhelming majority of visitors and buyers coming from Kanata and the west end, says Shabinsky.

There are few laundry rooms that would rival the green-and-white affair in the Woodland. It has the power to make laundry something we want to do.
