For the past two months — and I admit I was too skeptical to believe — the Ottawa Senators not only surprised themselves, the fans and the NHL, but also the gods of hockey history. The city will likely never look at these professional players the same way. They defied the odds and gave us all a reason to believe.
Let us also give general manager Bryan Murray his due: He saw something in this group that few did. Experience, tenacity and vision are his specialty. He deserves a salute for his achievement of washing away previous mistakes. The stars of this golden team, including coach Dave Cameron, the amazing goalie Andrew Hammond, captain Erik Karlsson and winger Mark Stone will live in the history books.
Win or lose, they can’t be anything but a bright spot in the history of the Senators, the city and the hockey world.
Bravo, to the end!
