A 55-year-old man was in serious condition Friday evening after being struck by an SUV in the west end while riding his bicycle.
In a release, paramedics said the man was “run over by a SUV making a turn at low speed.” The collision occurred at Maitland and Glenmount avenues shortly after 8 p.m.
Police are investigating the incident.
Paramedics treated the man for an “obvious leg fracture,” pelvic and shoulder injuries. He was transported to the trauma centre at the Ottawa Hospital’s Civic campus in serious condition.
It’s the second major incident involving a cyclist in Ottawa this week. On Wednesday evening, a 20-year-old cyclist was taken to hospital in critical condition after going over a low wall on the Rideau Canal pathway near the Heron Road bridge.
