Emergency crews raced to contain a fuel spill in Nepean Thursday after a tanker truck flipped on its side, injuring the 28-year-old driver.
The Ottawa fire department’s haz-mat team was called to Alti Place, near Moodie Drive and Fallowfield Road, to stop the leak and clean up the spill that occurred just after 2:15 p.m.
Ottawa fire spokesperson Bob Rainboth said the single-vehicle crash happened when the truck was heading southbound on Alti Private heading toward Moodie Drive.
“(The truck) didn’t negotiate a corner appropriately and turned onto its side,” said Rainboth. “The driver was able to exit the vehicle through the windshield.”
Crews used booms to try to contain the spill. Paramedics confirmed the driver, who sustained head and arm injuries, is in serious but stable condition in hospital. The Ministry of Environment was notified of the ground spill.
