A couple and their dog were displaced and a sushi restaurant suffered moderate damages as a pair of smoky blazes kept Ottawa firefighters on the go overnight.
The first fire was at about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday when neighbours reported flames being visible inside a home at 102 Jolliet Ave. in the Vanier neighbourhood.
Fire services managed to douse the blaze by about 12:30 a.m.
Firefighters said a woman was taken to hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation.
The family dog was also treated at the scene and then taken into care by bylaw services.
Ottawa Fire Services tweeted Thursday that the occupants were roused by their smoke alarm.
About an hour later, crews were dispatched to 1000 Sushi Islands restaurant at 1696 Carling Ave. after receiving a call from a smoke alarm company.
Firefighters arrived to find “quite a bit of smoke” coming from the roof and a working fire was declared by 2 a.m.
The fire was under control about an hour later.
There were no injuries and Ottawa fire estimated total damages to be $150,000.
