While Ottawa should miss the brunt of the winter storm that’s tracking across southern Ontario, regions south of the capital won’t be as lucky.

Environment Canada issued a weather advisory early Monday morning for numerous communities south of Ottawa, where five to 15 centimetres of snow is expected to fall.

The “blowing snow advisory” is for Brockville to Prescott; Gananoque to Mallorytown; Merrickville-Wolford to Kemptville; Westport to Charleston Lake; Cornwall to Lancaster; Maxville to Alexandria; Morrisburg to Long Sault; and Winchester to Newington.

The expected snowfall paired with winds gusting at speeds of 50 kilometres per hour will drastically reduce visibility, the weather agency says.

“Travel is expected to be hazardous due to reduced visibility. Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions,” Environment Canada said in its alert.
