A fire Friday evening in a Centretown basement apartment has displaced one person, according to Ottawa Fire Services.
Firefighters arrived at 53 MacLaren St. at just after 10 p.m. and reported heavy smoke coming from the unit. Crews had to force their way into the unit to tackle the blaze, which had spread to cupboards and walls, officials said.
The fire was under control by 10:30 p.m. No one was injured.
Fire officials said OC Transpo was on-scene providing shelter for the approximately 30 people who evacuated the apartment building. All but one of the tenants were able to re-enter their homes Friday evening.
The estimated cost in damage and cause of the fire were unknown Friday night.
