Freezing drizzle was expected to continue across Ottawa into Tuesday evening, Environment Canada said in an advisory.
The weather agency was advising motorists and pedestrians to take extra care throughout the region.
Freezing drizzle can produce thin, hard-to-see ice on surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways, and parking lots.
Temperatures were forecast to rise above freezing later in the evening, with rain expected.
Ottawa police tweeted just after 4 p.m. that they had already handled over 38 collisions during the day. Their advice? Keep a large distance between vehicles.
