Parks Canada and the Royal Ontario Museum have announced a partnership to tell the story and show the artifacts of explorer Sir John Franklin across the country.
“The Franklin Outreach Project will include pop-up displays, lectures, and exhibitions and incorporate contemporary research and technology and Inuit traditional knowledge,” an announcement Thursday said.
The main attraction of the three-year travelling exhibit will be a replica of the ship’s bell found in the wreck of Franklin’s ship HMS Erebus. The real bell stays in a lab in Ottawa.
Franklin and his 128 men all died in the 1840s after their ships Erebus and Terror were stuck in the Arctic ice. Most of the men died on shore after the ships sank.
Erebus was discovered this summer, well preserved in 11 metres of water. Terror’s location is still unknown.
