Ottawa police have opened two new collision reporting centres which aim to make reporting collisions easier and help prevent police officers from having to attend minor accidents.
The latest reporting centre, at 3343 St. Joseph Blvd. opened this week.
Like its previously opened counterpart at police headquarters on Elgin Street, it allows allow motorists involved in minor accidents to get off the road, file a partial collision report and then drive to a centres to complete the report filing.
Motorists must contact the OPS Communications Centre at 613-230-6211 if they are involved in a collision. From there, it will be determined if the collision can be reported through the reporting centre or if an officer needs to attend. Then, if a motorist is referred to the collision centre, they will be given a police report number to bring with them.
Drivers involved in collisions must report at the CRC as soon as possible. Police warned drivers to report collisions within 24 hours of their occurrence, otherwise charges may result.
