A 25-year-old Ottawa man faces a number of charges after allegedly attempting to flee the scene of a serious car crash late Friday at the intersection of Heron Road and Riverside Drive.
Emergency personnel were called to the crash between a pick-up truck and passenger vehicle shortly before midnight.
Police say the driver of the pick-up attempted to flee, but was quickly tracked down and arrested with the assistance of the K-9 unit.
Ottawa Fire Services were forced to saw the roof from the passenger vehicle to extricate the driver, a 43-year-old woman.
Paramedics started treating the female driver in her vehicle. She was initially unconscious, but did regain consciousness.
She was taken to hospital with a serious head injury with severe facial trauma. Her identity is being withheld.
Kyle Senk, 25, has been charged with impaired driving, having a blood-alcohol reading above .80, dangerous driving causing bodily harm and failure to remain at the scene of an accident.
The scene was held overnight for expert examination but has been reopened.
