Thanks to a fresh coating of snow across the region, and a little help from high-tech snowmaking apparatus, several area ski resorts are planning to partially open as early as this weekend.
Camp Fortune, just West of Chelsea, QC., plans to open several runs by this weekend. Edelweiss, which is a bit farther away in Wakefield, Q.C. said it is prepping its hills with snow making equipment and will likely be open by November 29th.
If the two are successful, it would mark a very early opening for Ottawa skiers and bodes well for another successful ski season in the area, which saw a long season in 2013-2014 thanks to the intense cold of last winter.
According to Environment Canada, the weather should remain in ideal parameters for making snow. The extended forecast show temperatures ranging from minus 11 degrees Celsius up to 2 degrees Celsius over the next week. It also includes several expected bouts of snow.
