Mitts, shovels and snow boots cannot be ignored any longer: snow is forecast for the entire week with up to 10 centimetres possible Monday alone.

Environment Canada predicted flurries Sunday morning and a high of 2 C, with a 40 per cent chance they will continue all day.

By late afternoon, light snow may begin again and continue overnight to an accumulation of 2 cm.

The snow will be heavier Monday, with about 5 to 10 cm expected to fall throughout the day under cloudy skies. The high will be  1 C, with an overnight low of – 6 C.

The chance of more snow continues for the rest of the week.

Ottawa Police Services are reminding drivers to be extra careful with precipitation and temperatures hovering around the freezing mark forecast for the week.

“I’ve been out driving myself today and it is slippery,” said Staff Sgt Brad Hampson Sunday morning.

He reminds everyone to give cars a little of extra distance, slow down and be mindful of driving for the weather and road conditions.

“We just want everyone to pay attention, given we’re expecting the first snowfall of the season,” he said. “It always takes time to adjust.”
