Wide receiver Carlton Mitchell has been released by the Ottawa Redblacks, the Canadian Football League team announced Monday.
The 26-year-old played in seven of the first 16 games of the season, making 16 receptions for 170 yards. He had only one catch for nine yards in last Friday’s 23-17 loss to the Montreal Alouettes, which dropped the Redblacks’ record to 2-14.
Mitchell, who twice had five catches in a game, was one of eight “international” players selected by the Redblacks in the CFL expansion draft last December. He had six catches for 69 yards in two games with the Edmonton Eskimos during the 2013 season.
