Ottawa artist Colin Muir Dorward has been shortlisted again for the RBC Canadian Painting Competition, which is one of the most prestigious art prizes in the country.

Dorward’s painting Labyrinthineon is among 15 works cited by judges for the national shortlist. It’s the second-consecutive year that Dorward, an Edmonton native who moved east to study at the University of Ottawa, has been on the shortlist.

The winner, to be announced Oct. 2 at the National Gallery, will receive $25,000. Two honorable mentions will come with $15,000 each, and the remaining nominees get $5,000 each.

Other nominees for Central Canada include Jennifer Carvalho and Laura Findlay, both from Guelph, and Scott Everingham and Neil Harrison, both from Toronto.

The Eastern Canadian nominees include Brendan Flanagan and  Nathaniel Hurtubise, both from Montreal, Adam Gunn and Aaron Weldon, both from Halifax, and Jessica Mensch of Brooklyn, N.Y. and formerly from Montreal.

The Western Canadian nominees include Jessica Bell, Colleen Heslin and Brian Kokoska, all from Vancouver, Rachelle Sawatsky, from Delta, B.C., and Sean Weisgerber, from Saskatoon.

Both Dorward and Everingham are represented by Patrick Mikhail Gallery in Ottawa.

Dorward had a solo exhibition at SAW Gallery in Ottawa earlier this year. Click here to read a review and interview about the exhibition.
